Big disappointment

The sound and voice acting are forgettable at best (personal taste, though) and the graphics are way too simplistic (again, personal taste).

That, and the gameplay just isn't fun. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE platformers, and consequently I like most platformers I play. This, however, feels uninspired and rushed as far as game mechanics and level design go. Controls are laggy, the spinning thing is just a little gimmick (and horribly implemented to boot), and there's little to no variety to speak of. I mean, it's obvious you were going for some kind of personal flavour that'd make your game stand out, but I feel that somewhere along the way you lost track of what's really important in a game: the actual gameplay.

So yeah, this is one of the very few platformers I have ever played (including other Flash games) that I just couldn't bear to play for longer than half an hour or so.

Psychofig responds:

If you got more than half way through it, you would like it. Gameplay was my main concentration, and it isn't laggy, your computer is.

Not all of us have QWERTY

In all honesty, the only reason I'm rating the game this low is because I didn't bother to play this after it told me I had to use the WASD keys. I live in Belgium, which means I have an AZERTY keyboard, not a QWERTY. WASD is painfully annoying to use for me and turned me off completely on playing this game.

Really, is it so hard to map keys to something universal, like arrow keys or something?

Promising, but ultimately falls short

Like Witchwing already said, the whole point of a fret system is to emulate an instrument. Ergo, higher notes should be on one side, and lower notes on the other. Here, the notes just pop up... everywhere, regardless of how high or low they are.

Of course, that would be very minor issue, were it not for the fact that the game is terribly, TERRIBLY, out of sync. I'm not talking about the songs themselves, as I realize they're user-made content, but very often the game told me I still missed a fret when I pressed the button spot-on.

That, and I didn't much like the turn-table thing either, as they're mouse controlled, and more often than not I'd accidentally move my mouse out of the flash window. Not a very practical idea, this.

Anyway, this game has some very promising concepts, but lack of polish and extra thought keep it from actually being good.

Enjoyable ^^

This is actually very fun to use if you're bored out of your skull :P The soundtrack gets repetitive quick though. Just a reminder.

Oh, and TwiztedPretzel. Whether you'd like to think you're intelligent or not, fact is: you ARE an idiot. Basically, what you're saying is that this flash sucks because it isn't funny and it doesn't have a story. Not everything on Newgrounds is like that, if you were intelligent as you yourself said you were, you would've known this flash was one of those things before you even clicked on it. Yet you still did. That either makes you an idiot, or an asshole. Or both.

Oh, and calling the author AND the reviewers who liked this gay SOLELY based on whether they like this or not, is the absolute pinnacle of being an idiot. A homophobic idiot, to be precise.

And lastly, for someone who claims to be so intelligent, you sure as hell don't know how to properly construct a sentence without the use of two dozens of full stops every ten words. Basic English class too simple for you, oh intelligent one?

You know what's funny?

I've been browsing through the reviews of this submission, and roughly 90% of the people who tell you to mind your language errors can't type up a proper sentence themselves.

Guys, if you're going to bash someone on their "grammer", I suggest you learn how to spell the damn word right first. It's grammar. With an a. Bunch of hypocrites.

Anyway, back to the flash.

Graphics: Well, yeah, it's a sprite and desktop rip, can't go wrong there :P --> 10
Style: Could be better, could be worse. You've got some potential, you just lack the capacity to show it completely. Keep it up, and I know you'll improve a lot. --> 5
Sound: Nothing special there. No annoying sound, but nothing spectacular either --> 5
Violence: Well, it was a "fight", if you can call it that, but seeing as how there's absolutely no gore involved (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, mind you), it drops to a --> 7
Interactivity: It's a movie, so this is self explanatory --> 0
Humor: Pretty much the same bit I said about the style. Keep working on it, you'll get better. --> 5
Overall: The flash could've been front page material, if it didn't feel so rushed. Like others have said (despite their own grammatical and spelling errors), have someone look over your works before submitting them to the portal, and making your flash a bit longer would've helped as well.

Good concept ruined by horrible, HORRIBLE controls

Really. I don't know whether you meant for all the pads to be that damn wobbly, but I can tell you: it's not good. The slow sturdy one, I can imagine that being a bit rickety in fast-moving, but I noticed little to no difference in any of the pads (except that the lightning thing does get enhanced on the Bolt pad) concerning movement. Oh yeah, the Speedy one wobbles at a faster rate. Whoop-dee-doo.

All else, the game's great, maybe add a bit more power-ups, but for God's sake, do something about the controls.

Gave me chills

I liked it. The graphics could've been better (but they're still good, don't get me wrong, it's way better than what I could ever do), but that doesn't stop this submission from properly sending a clear message with powerful emotions backing them up. Very nicely done.

Quite simply the best flash game I ever played

Title says it all. Very nice use of the sprites, quite a nice story, simply everything was done right (and contrary to WoW, I didn't encounter any bugs at all).

By the way, Fagnus is VERY easy to defeat if you have Blood Pact, Adrenaline Rush and a couple of Magic Dust items to keep your energy up. He'll heal a lot at first, but if you manage to survive long enough and keep your energy over 25 (for those Blood Pact attacks), he's toast.

I was level 9 when I fought him, by the way.

Great flash

Wonderful thing you made. Kudos to being able to portray what you were going for so well. That alone gave you a high mark. And of course, nice graphics and sound help :P

Oh, and to that alleycat person, you obviously didn't understand what this flash meant.

MMZ - The Last Cataclysm MMZ - The Last Cataclysm

Holy crap, that was awesome!

This is by far the best sprite flash I've ever seen. I can't wait to see how the story continues!

Some things bugged me, though. One, Harpuia, Fefnir and Leviathan (Harpuia in particular) would never join Zero against Neo Arcadia. The Guardians fight for humanity, and Harpuia made it pretty damn clear in MMZ3 that he'd never fight alongside the resistance. He only helped Zero at the end of MMZ3 to save humanity.

Two, some of the voices were just... off. I didn't like the whole Smith type of voice for Harpuia, and I didn't like Zero's voice either.

Nevertheless, a grade A, kickass flash, I hope there's more where that came from!
